BUG

      Tjukurpa B Kool

Also known as "Bug"

Sire: Tjukurpa Patch

Dam: Tjukurpa Sassie

DOB 13/8/09

Breed : Pure Breed Koolie registered with the Koolie Club of Australia

I have been fascinated with Koolie's for some time now but never thought I would be able to have one for many years due to having to many dogs. Sadly through a rather tragic set of circumstances we lost our beloved  Molly and we are about to lose Tinkerbell as well leaving us with all boy dogs.  Faced with having no bitches to keep what I can only say is a "delicate" pack of males I set off in search of finding my Koolie that would fit into our family.  I would like to think that Molly left us very early for a reason and I would like to hope that it was to make room for Bug to come and live with us.

I think its very healthy to venture into a breed you know nothing about and start your research.  Its amazing what you can come up with and also how nasty some people can be towards others.  Being a new owner to the breed I (like others) found it extremely challenging to find the right breeder for me as Koolie's come in all sizes and shapes so finding the right Kennel was important.  I did not want an overly big Koolie and it was also very important to me coming from such a large breed (as in numbers not size) as Cavaliers to find someone associated with the Koolie club as I have always felt those that take time to venture into a club truly care about the breed and that is where I wanted to be.

With the help and encouragement from a few friends, my travels lead me to Kerrie at Tjukurpa Kennels in Euchuca, VIC.  Her honestly and ability to listen to what I wanted put me straight at ease with her and I out my name down for a puppy that was from a mating to to take place that week as I had all the time in the world to wait.  2 1/2 very long months later and I get the email all puppy buyer wait for.  Diamond ( the bitch I was waiting on) had a healthy litter of 5 males.  I was shattered to find that after such a long wait that my Koolie girl was not to be.  Then Kerrie told me about a litter that was born 2 days before with Diamonds Litter sister Sassy with 2 bitches in it and that is when I saw her.  I just knew from the photo that was my Koolie and of the 2 names I had picked out, she was defiantly a "Bug"

With a 9 week wait I could not resist the urge to go for a visit even though it was a 9 hour trip each way so at 4 weeks of age I went on a road trip to meet Bug, Kerrie and the Koolie's.  When I left I was even more content with my choice of breeder and even more so my choice of puppy.  Bug arrived at the age of 9 weeks and has been with us now for a further 9 weeks.  In that time she has made us all laugh and has been a source of joy in our house after such sadness of losing Molly as well as my Grandma.  Its so nice to have life after a lot of death and I am looking forward to really getting in a working with her in 2010.  You can follow her training on her blog at

and I am so excited about what the future holds for us.  Already she has fitted right in (as you can see)and is my little shadow which is exactly what I wanted.

So for the time being here are some photos of her first few weeks with us which have included camping trips to agility trials, Countless trips to preschool, a day out at the Pet Expo to hang on the Koolie with the Koolie Club for the day promoting Koolie's and finally ( and most importantly) lots of trips to the Bus stop to pick up Jack off the school bus.

This has to be my favourite photo of her.  This was how any self respecting Koolie spend the day in 40 degree heat.  I mean they are really smart dogs!
